Work environment

The International Platform Branch within Global Affairs Canada governs and delivers the fine arts program in support of the delivery of the Government of Canada’s programs in 179 missions located in 106 countries. Real property is handled by two bureau, the Stewardship and Planning Bureau and the Project Delivery and Professional and Technical Services Bureau. Forming part of the Professional and Technical Services Bureau, the fine arts program governs policy, acquisitions and maintenance of the departments art collection for use in the real property portfolio comprises over 1 million square metres of office and residential space, representing over 2,400 property holdings, including many properties of high value and historic significance. The manager of visual art collection works in collaboration with the Architectural and Interior Design divisions.

Immediate need: 1 position to be staffed on an indeterminate basis.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Degree in art or art history from a recognized post-secondary institution.
*Degree is a baccalaureate or higher level degree, as established by educational authorities.

Degree equivalency

Significant and recent* experience in visual art collection management, including managing the acquisition, cataloguing and documentation of art.
*Significant and recent means collections valued at greater than $20 million in the last 5 years.

Experience in supervising staff for the care and keeping of visual art assets.

Experience in working in a team project environment.

Experience in managing a budget and setting priorities

ASSETS

Experience in managing a collection of Canadian Art.

Experience in critical writing and interpretation of Canadian Art.

Experience dealing with artists and art galleries.

Experience with donations and loans of art.

Experience in financial and contract management including planning, developing and managing a budget for varied activities.
