The challenge for the successful candidate will be to aid in research relating to:
1) Arctic Char and Lake Trout interactions
2) Parameters related to stock assessment including; interspecific interactions, habitat selection
3) Laboratory experiment preparation and execution
4) Literature review of char/ lake trout e.g. habitat selection, life history forms
5) Analysis of historical and newly collected northern fish interaction data
6) Presentation of results and findings internally in DFO and externally at conferences.
The Arctic Stock Assessment section is responsible for the collection and evaluation of data on harvested fish and marine mammals, including stock relationships, stock abundance, and impacts of harvesting. These evaluations are then used to provide advice to fisheries managers through a peer-reviewed Regional Advisory Process and summarized in a publicly-available Science Advisory Report.
Fisheries research conducted in the Canadian Arctic are done so in a co-management environment with full participation of the co-management boards in the applicable communities. These fisheries are be used for commercial and/or subsistence purposes and are highly valued by the surrounding community.

Enrolment in a Masters program in a field of study related to fisheries science in an post-secondary institution
