Duties

Serving a national client base, the Pension Expert is the first point of contact for clients to access personalized service and advice. Clients include prospective plan members of the general public, departments, active and retired federal government employees and their survivors who contribute to and/or are impacted by the pension acts and regulations administered by Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) such as the Public Service Superannuation Act, the Royal Canadian Mountain Police Superannuation Act, the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act and other applicable Acts referred to as pension Acts administered by PSPC as well as several public service group benefit plans such as the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP), the Pensioners' Dental Services Plan (PDSP), the Public Service Management Insurance Plan (PSMIP), the Disability Insurance Plan (DI) and the Post Retirement Life Insurance Plan (PRLIP).

Intent of the process

This is an inventory of candidates to staff similar indeterminate, term and casual AS-02 positions within the Public Service Pension Centre located in Ottawa (Ontario).

Employees of the federal public service may be considered for deployments, assignments, secondments or actings.

This inventory may be used to staff similar positions on an indeterminate, term or casual basis with various linguistic profiles, tenures and locations.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
- Successful completion of two years of postsecondary education in a field relevant to the work to be performed.

OR

- An acceptable combination of education*, training and/or experience

*The combination is defined as a secondary school diploma combined with training and/or experience relevant to the work to be performed.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
- Experience in the use of a word processor such as Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect or WordPro Lotus.
- Experience in dealing with individuals in a client service environment.
- Minimum 2 years experience working in compensation and/or pension administration and/or benefits administration within the last 5 years.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
- Experience in a contact or call centre environment.
- Experience in the administration of Federal pension or Federal insurance benefits (Ex: Plan enrolment, service buyback, leave without pay, initial benefits to pensioners, survivor benefits, transfer value, pension transfer agreement, pension benefit division, employer support services, or other services.)
- Experience in the administration of the Public Service Superannuation Act, the Royal Canadian Mountain Police Superannuation Act or the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS
- Placement of employees subject to current or future reorganization.
- Placement of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) employees affected by work force adjustment.
- Public Works and Government Services Canada is committed to establishing and maintaining a representative workforce. This organizational need may be identified as part of the appointment decision. In such cases, qualified candidates who self-declare as members of a visible minority group, Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities or women (in non-traditional occupations) would be considered.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

- The normal workday shall be seven decimal five (7.5) consecutive hours, during the hours of operations which are between 6:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern time. Employees will be required to cover the core hours of operations from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Employees will be required to provide information to clients via the telephone.
- Rotation to different sections within the Government of Canada Pension Centre is a
condition of employment for this position.
- Be willing and able to work overtime on short notice
- Be willing and able to travel occasionally

Other information

A random selection of candidates may be used in the determination of those to be given further consideration in the assessment process.

References may be done: You must provide the name, title, telephone number and email address of two (2) potential referees who have been your direct superior/supervisor during your professional relationship. Furthermore, they must have worked with you for a timeframe of at least six consecutive months within the last three years. The name of your current supervisor must be included, even if the supervision period is less than 6 months. Please also provide a third name if the period of supervision for recent supervisor was less than 6 months.

A test may be administered.

An interview may be administered.

A situational exercise may be administered.
