Work environment

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) is a federal government organization responsible for the prosecution of criminal offenses under federal jurisdiction. Our organization consists of approximately 1000 employees in regional offices across the country who all play a key role in strengthening Canada’s criminal justice system.

The Manitoba Regional Office (MRO) is responsible for federal prosecutions throughout the province of Manitoba. The regional headquarters is in Winnipeg, and the office provides legal advice and prosecution services at more than 65 provincial court circuit points, superior court in six cities and towns, and the Manitoba Court of Appeal in Winnipeg.

The majority of the files handled in the MRO involved CDSA offences, ranging from low-complexity matters to prosecutions of sophisticated criminal organizations. The remaining files involved regulatory and economic crimes such as tax evasion, cross-border smuggling and immigration offences, environmental and wildlife offences, and offences relating to the health and safety of Canadians generally.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) indeterminate position. A pool of qualified candidates may be established from this process and may be used to staff similar positions at Public Prosecution Service of Canada in the Manitoba Regional Office, with varying tenures (such as indeterminate, specified period) and requirements according to the position to be staffed. In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting or assignment/secondment opportunities.
