Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory process.

A fully or partially assessed pool may be created and may be used to staff similar positions at an identical or equivalent group and level with various linguistic requirements, tenures and security clearances within the Administrative Tribunals Support Service of Canada (ATSSC). All other federal organizations listed in Schedules I, IV and V of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) may use this selection process to appoint a candidate to a similar position within their organization.

Your résumé.

A covering letter in 3,500 words (maximum) "You MUST clearly demonstrate IN YOUR COVER LETTER how you meet the EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE criteria listed in the essential and asset qualifications (if applicable). You must use each criterion as a header and then, using clear and concrete examples, write one or two paragraphs explaining WHEN, WHERE and HOW you obtained each EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE criterion. Describe the examples in specific terms, providing sufficient details so that the screening board can clearly understand the circumstances. Content of your response must be supported by your résumé. Lack of examples and details may result in your application being rejected as the screening board will have insufficient information to determine if the screening criteria are met. Your résumé will be used as a secondary source to validate the information described in the cover letter."

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. EDUCATION

Both Streams:

A degree from a recognized university in linguistics, translation, French or English studies, communications, law or in a related discipline, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Stream 1:

Recent* and significant** experience translating various documents from French to English.

Stream 2:

Recent* and significant** experience translating various documents from English to French.

Both Streams:

Experience writing, editing and reviewing a wide range of documents in either official language.

Experience performing comparative revision and terminological research.

Experience providing linguistic advice to colleagues or senior management.

*Recent experience is defined as within the last five years.

**Significant experience will be evaluated based on the volume, complexity and range of work normally carried out over three years in a related field.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Both Streams:

Experience in providing linguistic services support (for example translation, interpretation or editing) in a quasi-judicial or legal environment such as a tribunal, court, commission, board, law or notary firm.

Experience in editing, comparative revision or translation of legal or medical language.

Experience in editing various documents into plain language.

Experience in developing, writing or editing communications content or products intended for internal or external audiences.

Experience in working with language reference tools, for example computer assisted translation systems, translation memories, and terminology banks.
