You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Successful completion of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in electro-mechanical technology, or another field related to the duties of the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Greater than 12 months total at sea experience.
Experience in the planning of, and safe undertaking of marine programs.
Experience with marine rigging of equipment heavier than 200 kg at sea.
Experience with the safe deployment, operation and recovery of electro-mechanical equipment at sea.
Experience in trouble-shooting and repair of electro-mechanical equipment at sea.
Experience in installing and servicing electrical equipment and making data connections.
Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma program in Oceans Technology or equivalent.
Experience operating a forklift.
Experience obtaining certifications for sea-going rigging.
Experience with hydraulic systems and hydraulic winches.
Experience implementing, in a technical capacity, oceanographic scientific operations.
Experience with basic electrical troubleshooting.
Experience with ocean-bottom sampling procedures at sea, e.g., piston cores or grab samplers.
Experience with the safe operation, and maintenance of high pressure (>2000 psi) compressors.
Experience with multichannel seismic systems or Ocean Bottom Seismometers.
Experience with the setup and deployment of seafloor video and camera systems, or Remotely Operated Vehicles.
Experience making electrical connections for sub-surface deployment.
Experience in the delivery of health and safety training.
English essential

Valid class 5 driver’s licence;
Ability to lift and carry 25 kg;
Willingness and ability to participate in multiple seagoing expeditions of up to one month’s duration, for up to 4 months each year;
Willingness and ability to work under adverse field conditions on a variety of platforms including research vessels and as part of land-based survey parties.
