The EG position will be co-located at the University of Alberta which is a highly dynamic research environment. This position will need to meet a high standard of productivity within both the AAFC and University of Alberta.
Immediate staffing need:
- 1 full time temporary position for a 12 month duration
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment for the location indicated for this process.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting or assignment/secondment opportunities.

BSc. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Animal Science or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Experience performing molecular biology procedures, including DNA and RNA preparation, high-throughput gene expression analysis using RNA-Seq, functional assays, cell culture, DNA genotyping, and DNA methylation.
Experience managing and analyzing phenotypic, gene expression, and DNA methylation data resulting from experimental treatments using a variety of software (i.e. MS Word, MS Excel, and SAS).
Experience designing experiments, developing project plans and developing methodologies and tools.
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge of analytical instrumentation including GC, HPLC and high throughput RNA and DNA analysis, and equipment and techniques used in a molecular genetics laboratory.
Knowledge of internet based tools and resources for biological pathway interrogation, gene sequence data search and analysis.
Knowledge of bovine anatomy and physiology.
Knowledge of genetics of mammalian species.
