ED : A secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EX1 : Experience working with Canadian standards and regulations related to the construction or equipment* of small commercial vessels, fishing vessels or pleasure craft.

EX2: Significant** experience :
a) Working at a boatyard or other facility engaged in the manufacture, rebuilding or repair of small commercial vessels, fishing vessels, pleasure craft or their related equipment* OR
b) in the survey of small commercial vessels, fishing vessels, pleasure craft or their related equipment*.

EX3: Experience in analyzing and preparing documents such as compliance reports, quality assurance checklists or other related documents for compliance purposes.

*"Equipment" is defined as the propulsion machinery or electrical system, or other machinery or system fitted on board of small commercial vessels, fishing vessels or pleasure craft.
**"Significant" is defined as a minimum of three years.

Education and Certification
AED1: Diploma from a recognized college in a field related to the construction, design or equipment* of small commercial vessels, fishing vessels, or pleasure craft, or in another field relevant to the position to be staffed..

AED2: American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) Master Technician Certification.

AED3: Canadian accreditation or certification as a marine surveyor issued by the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) or the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS).

AED4: 30 credits or equivalent program*** completion in a field related to the construction, design or equipment* of small commercial vessels, fishing vessels, or pleasure craft.

*Equipment is defined as the propulsion machinery or electrical system, or other machinery or system fitted on board of small commercial vessels, fishing vessels or pleasure craft.

***30 credits or equivalent program means a structured program from a recognized institution, normally acquired over the course of one year and leads to professional certification.

Degree equivalency
