Duties

Stream 1: Senior Surveyor - Cadastral Survey Information
As a Senior Surveyor, you will be responsible to lead the acquisition, integration and quality control of digital boundary and cadastral data for the Surveyor General Branch and International Boundary Commission. You will plan, develop and maintain related land information systems to meet operational and client requirements. You will serve as a subject-matter expert and provide technical advice on boundary and cadastral information management framework, data infrastructure, geospatial technology and integration with client land planning and land registry systems. You will plan, organize and lead boundary and cadastral data projects and control and supervise allocated resources.

Stream 2: Senior Surveyor Regions and Cadastral Standards & Regulations
As a Senior Surveyor, you will provide professional surveying advice and technical expertise to a variety of government clients and you will assist other survey professionals and the public on all aspects of the Canada Lands Surveys System. You will conduct field surveys and will prepare survey requirements for contracting of legal surveys. You will work as part of a team to resolve complex boundary and land tenure issues using your extensive surveying background and detailed historical research of survey related documents. You will review survey returns from other professional to ensure compliance with survey standards and tenure documents.

Intent of the process

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada at the EN-SUR-03 group and level with:
●various tenures (determinate period or permanent);

►A Canada Lands Surveyor's commission AND licence to practice issued by the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors OR a licence or authority to practice as a land surveyor in any province in Canada.

►Approximately 2 years’ experience in providing boundary or cadastral survey services.

►Knowledge of the Canada Lands Survey System (including Acts and Regulations).
►Knowledge of land information systems.

►Ability to communicate effectively orally.

STREAM 2 - ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
►A Canada Lands Surveyor's commission AND licence to practice issued by the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors OR a licence or authority to practice as a land surveyor in any province in Canada.

Note: If this condition is met by having a licence or authority to practice as a land surveyor in a province, then the successful candidate must obtain a Canada Lands Surveyor's commission AND licence to practice within 2 years of appointment to the position.

►Approximately 2 years’ experience in providing boundary or cadastral survey services.

►Knowledge of the Canada Lands Survey System (including Acts and Regulations).

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - may be required depending on the specific position being staffed:

►Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice or other related field such as geomatics, geodetic sciences or remote sensing.
►A licence or authority to practice as a land surveyor in any province in Canada. Note: Qualified candidates may be selected for positions based on the province for which they hold a licence or authority to practice as a land surveyor .
►A Canada Lands Surveyor's commission AND licence to practice issued by the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors.

►Experience in the management of boundary or cadastral geospatial data.

►Knowledge of real property rights.
►Knowledge of the International Boundary Commission.
►Knowledge of natural boundary law.
►Knowledge of land information systems.

►Ability to plan projects.
►Ability to develop applications, procedures, methodologies OR workflows related to the maintenance of cadastral OR boundary datasets.
