AMENDMENT TO CLOSING DATE
The individual carries out the crossing of wheat plants to create hybrids. Grows wheat plants for seed increase and maintains plant and seed collections. Working in the laboratory, they produce wheat double haploid lines using the wheat-maize pollen approach including emasculation of wheat plants, pollination and embryo rescue. The individual, working within the winter wheat group, evaluates wheat breeding materials for agronomic performance and reactions to fungal pathogens. They work with the research scientist conducting data analysis and contribute to the production of presentations, reports, and publications. The research activities are carried out in field, greenhouse and laboratory environments.
Science and Technology Branch, Ottawa Research and Development Centre (ORDC), is located on the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa. The successful applicant will work in a number of on-site facilities including the Wheat Seed Laboratory, Winter Wheat double haploid laboratory and ORDC greenhouse and growth room facilities. As part of ORDC and Winter Wheat Improvement group, the successful applicant will also work closely with other researchers and support staff conducting wheat breeding in field, greenhouse and laboratory environments using a variety of research expertise to develop new winter wheat varieties for eastern Canadian producers.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following fields: Plant Biology/Plant Agriculture or Crop Science; Environmental Science; Biology; or a related agricultural program
Experience providing technical support in a research or laboratory environment
Experience collecting and performing analysis on plant and/or grain samples
Holder of a valid Ontario Class AZ or DZ vehicle license or equivalent
English essential
