Work environment

The Manager, Information Management (IM) is responsible for ensuring that the Government of Canada Policy on Information Management and its supporting Directives are an identifiable and integral element of the Public Prosecution Service of Canada’s governance, programs and services.

The Manager is responsible for leading the implementation of policies, procedures and processes for managing information in order to manage content, business intelligence and decision support, information access, information protection and information privacy.

The Manager is responsible for providing functional direction on postal and courier mail operations to PPSC Headquarters and regional offices.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) indeterminate position. A pool of qualified candidates may be established from this process and may be used to staff similar positions at Public Prosecution Service of Canada in the National Capital Region, with varying tenures (such as indeterminate, specified period) and with various linguistic profiles and requirements (such as bilingual imperative – BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC) according to the position to be staffed. In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting or assignment/secondment opportunities. The approval of his/her substantive supervisor will be required before an acting/assignment/secondment is offered.

This process may be used to staff positions in other departments/agencies working under the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA).

Education:
Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary education program in Information Management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
- Recent* and significant** experience in managing work to implement policies, procedures and processes for managing information. (This may include the establishment of electronic information repositories; taxonomies for the storage and retrieval of information; information retention periods for information of business value; and information disposition processes).
- Recent* and significant** experience in providing subject-matter advice and guidance in the design and implementation of information technology to control information management.
- Experience in managing human resources***.

*Recent is defined as having performed the duties within the last five (5) years.
**Significant experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over a period of at least three (3) years full-time.
*** For human resources management, applicants must clearly demonstrate how many employees they have directly supervised including assignment of work and assessment of performance, and state for how long.

Asset Qualifications - Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

Asset Qualifications - Experience:
- Experience leading project teams or working groups on information management related initiatives or projects (for example, GCDocs, Directive on Recordkeeping or Open Government).
- Experience working with electronic document management or records management systems, such as GCDocs.
- Experience analyzing business process issues and implementing Information Management solutions to mitigate them.
- Experience in managing financial resources*.

*Financial resources is defined as being responsible for the financial planning or forecasting or reporting of a budget.

Operational Requirements:
- Willingness and ability to travel on occasion.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime.
- Willingness and ability to work during weekends and holidays.
