Duties

Under the supervision of the Principal Architect, the employee must provide the services and expertise that include a large variety of interventions based on a wide range of knowledge needed during the various phases of the project development.

The main responsibilities associated with the position are the following:
• Provide architectural expert advisory services to ensure that projects are completed in accordance with the legislative and theoretical framework;
• Perform and manage quality control reviews of projects done by external consultants;
• Develop and manage studies, expertises, technical et functional programs;
• Design and verify building services plans and specifications. Supervise construction work and contribute to preparing field reports.

Intent of the process

The position is for a two (2) year term with possibility of extension.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Public Services and Procurement Canada, Quebec Region, and whose duration, linguistic profile, and security requirement could vary depending on the position to be staffed.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree* in architecture from a recognized post-secondary institution.*
*Degree refers to a baccalaureate from a recognized university with a specialization in architecture.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Certification as a professional architect in Canada.

EXPERIENCE:
1. Approximately five years of recent* and significant** experience in the areas of design and the preparation of tendering documents for architectural projects for new buildings and renovations.

2. Approximately one year of recent* and significant** experience in the delivery of architectural services in the construction phase.

3. Master systems and software such as Microsoft Office Suite as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint software, to undertake administrative requirements, to access data bases and to develop content to incorporate in reports.

Note :
Experience is defined as work-related experience acquired in the identified field following graduation from an undergraduate architectural program in an architectural speciality relevant to the position.

“ Recent and Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience (i.e. scope/degree of experience, exposure to various activities or cases, level of exposure, etc…) that would be usually acquired in approximately five (5) years and obtained in the last eight (8) years.

KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of standards, regulations and codes in the fields of architecture and construction and knowledge of key organizations and technical references used in the architectural field.

2. Knowledge of architectural principles, practices, techniques and methods used in design and construction, knowledge of sustainable development principles applied in the field, knowledge of key distribution strategies for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) and basic knowledge of electricity and lighting.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in the development or completion of projects in accordance with the requirements of the LEED Green Building Rating System.

Experience in construction work cost estimate.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Have a driver’s license valid in Québec.
2. Be willing and able to travel occasionally in the province of Québec.
