Intent of the process

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE (Both)
• Experience working with a variety of software applications including: word processing, spreadsheet, and presentations such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
• Experience OR ability working effectively with First Nations, Inuit, or Métis.

Stream 1
• Experience in providing general administrative and reception support in an office environment
• Experience in preparing, formatting, and coordinating correspondence
• Experience liaising with internal and external clients

Stream 2
• Experience in applying policies and/or procedures
• Experience in delivering services to clients

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Education (Steam 2)
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the work to be performed.

Degree equivalency

Experience (Both)
• Recent* experience working for an Indigenous community located in one of the territories (i.e., Yukon, NWT, Nunavut) or an Indigenous organization whose clientele is from a territory
* Recent is defined as within the last two years

• Experience using a financial management system such as SAP (or others)
• Experience coordinating logistics for meetings, seminars, conferences or events
• Experience in accounts payable or procurement
• Experience in budget management and variance reporting

Steam 2
• Experience working with grants and contributions
• Experience working in a call centre

KNOWLEDGE (Both)

• Knowledge of the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch’s Strategic Plan

Stream 2
• Knowledge of Health Canada’s Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program (Whitehorse)
• Knowledge of Health Canada’s Indian Residential School Resolution Health Support Program (IRS RHSP)
• Knowledge of key health and social issues facing First Nations and Inuit in the territories

Abilities (Stream 2)
• Ability to supervise staff
• Ability to analyze financial reports and expenditures using word processing, database and spreadsheet software systems

Organizational Needs:
• In alignment with the APEP in support of strategically increasing Aboriginal representation in areas having the most impact on program delivery and health outcomes of FNIHB’s target population, selection may / will be limited to candidates self-identifying as belonging to Aboriginal peoples. Aboriginal candidates must use the Affirmation of Aboriginal Affiliation Form (AAAF).

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to work overtime, sometimes on short notice
• Possess a valid driver’s license (Whitehorse and Yellowknife)
• Willing and able to travel, sometimes to remote northern communities

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
For appointments located in Whitehorse or Yellowknife lasting six (6) months or more, the incumbent and his/her dependents* must obtain Health Canada medical clearance in accordance with the Isolated Post and Government Housing Directive. Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
