Duties

Stream 1 : Interior Designer/Design Manager (Gatineau / Halifax / Moncton)

This position is required to fulfill the role of Design Manager (DM) with the Interior Design unit of Workplace Solutions (for Gatineau) or with the Interior Design group (for Halifax and Moncton). The DM is mainly responsible for quality assurance and oversight on fit-up and accommodation projects. The DM provides technical expertise in interior design as well as interior design services.

Stream 2 : Interior Designer with Furniture Specialty (Gatineau / Halifax / Moncton)

This position is required to fulfill the role of Furniture Specialist with the Interior Design unit of Workplace Solutions (for Gatineau) or the Interior Design group (for Halifax and Moncton). The Furniture Specialist works with the Design Manager to develop furniture procurement strategies and coordinate all activities pertaining to furniture requirements and procurement within project delivery.

Stream 3: Interior Designer – Furniture Specialist (Gatineau)

This position is required to fulfill the role of Furniture Specialist with the Furniture unit of Workplace Solutions. The Furniture Specialist is mainly responsible for developing specifications, researching office furniture and contributing to the development of procurement tools.

Work environment

Workplace Solutions (Public Services and Procurement Canada, Real Property Branch) is a dynamic team focused on innovative workplace solutions for the Government of Canada. Our Interior Design and Furniture teams are seeking qualified candidates to fill the following positions: Interior Designer/ Design Manager, Interior Designer with Furniture Specialty and Furniture Specialist. Our mission is to create, promote and develop the office space of the future that embraces innovation, transformation and continuous renewal. We are focused on going beyond Workplace 2.0 and introducing the Activity Based Workplace which promotes flexibility, agility and well-being in an effort to strive towards the Blueprint 2020 vision for the Government of Canada. We provide professional interior design and furniture services, including concept development, design advisory and quality assurance to all government departments.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within PSPC with various tenures. Appointments may also be held in Ottawa, Ontario. The pool can be used to staff positions with various language requirements such and various security requirements. The positions to fill are located in :

Gatineau, Québec : 3 indeterminate positions.
Halifax, Nova Scotia : 1 term position.
Moncton, New-Brunswick : 1 term position.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a university degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Interior Design or Graduation with diploma in Interior Design or Architectural technology from a recognized college, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.

Definition of "an acceptable combination of education and experience»: A candidate who does not meet the minimum of education required must have at least 5 years of experience in providing professional interior design services and education related to interior design.

Stream 1
Interior Designer / Design Manager

1. Significant and recent experience* in working with a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of office accommodation projects.
2. Experience in front-end project planning, including activities and projects stages such as needs analysis and functional programming.
3. Significant and recent experience* in providing professional interior design services for office fit up or accommodation projects.
4. Experience in providing strategic advice and project delivery strategy recommendations for interior design projects.
5. Experience using AutoCAD** software to produce drawings related to interior design such as construction drawings, schematics, plans and details drawings.

*Significant experience is defined as performing the identified duties over a period of approximately 5 years. Recent experience is defined as having approximately five (5) years of experience within the last ten (10) years.

**AutoCAD experience is defined as having at least three (3) years of experience within the last ten (10) years.

Stream 2
Interior Designer with Furniture Specialty

1. Experience in providing professional interior design services for office accommodation projects.
2. Experience in researching new and innovative office furniture.
3. Experience in creating technical specifications related to office furniture.
4. Experience in conducting preliminary investigations and analysis of claims of defective office furniture.
5. Experience using AutoCAD** software to produce drawings related to interior design such as construction drawings, schematics, plans and details drawings.

**AutoCAD experience is defined as having at least three (3) years of experience within the last three (10) years.

1. Registered Member of a recognized Interior Design Association in Canada.
2. Intern member of a recognized Interior Design Association in Canada.
3. Project management professional designation (PMP) or other project management designation.
4. LEED AP-(accredited professional) or LEED GA (green associate) or other sustainable professional accreditation stating designation(i.e. LEED BD&C, etc) and date of receipt.
5. NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Education) certificate as a Professional Interior Designer.

EXPERIENCE
For all streams

1. Significant and recent experience* in coordinating consultant contracts for interior design services or functional programming consultant services for large office fit-up projects.
2. Experience in developing furniture procurement strategies, preparing contract documents and managing furniture contracts.
3. Experience in applying office furniture standards when writing specifications such as:
