Intent of the process

Please note that geographic limitations apply. You must reside or be employed in the above areas of selection if you are interested in being considered.

The intent of this selection process is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis. A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Public Service.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. Failing to do so could result in your application being rejected.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of a certified cook program* or an acceptable combination** of education, training and experience;

*Successful completion of a certified cook program such as : Cité Collégiale, Algonquin College or other recognized applied arts institution

**An acceptable combination of education, training and experience must consist of :
-Successful completion of a secondary school diploma;
-Minimum of 3 years experience working in the field of high calibre food creation and production.

Degree equivalency

Significant* and recent** experience demonstrating high-level culinary skills in the delivery of wide range gourmet meals, with an emphasis on Canadian cuisine.

*Significant is defined as a minimum of three years working in a high-level culinary environment.
**Recent is defined as experience normally acquired within the last five years.

Significant* and recent** experience providing high quality service to clients, including plating and serving guests (all levels from dignitaries to high profile public figures to members of the general public) in a luxury hotel or institution.

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of culinary preparation, artistic design and trends, cooking method and presentation techniques according to the highest culinary and food safety standards, including allergies and food restrictions.
Knowledge of pastry presentation.
Knowledge of health and safety practices.

Ability to create exceptional meals, including adapting recipes, developing menus and cooking unique dishes based on an theme.
Ability to collaborate in several aspects of kitchen operations, for example: receiving and verifying quality of goods, tracking and rotating inventory, loading and unloading goods.
Ability to respond promptly and effectively to all requests to deliver and adapt high calibre culinary services, within short deadlines.
Ability to work alone or in a team.
Ability to communicate orally.
Ability to communicate in writing.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice.
Willingness and ability to work irregular shifts, including working evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
Willingness to wear uniform and anti-slip shoes.
Willingness and ability to travel up to three (3) weeks with little advanced notice (ie. La Citadelle, Québec City).
Willingness and ability to complete a Certified Food Handler Training.

5. INFORMATION TO BE PROVIDED:

and Experience), Asset Qualifications as well as complementary questions.
6. Various assessment tools may be used in this selection process, such as a written examination, a take-home exam, an interview, references, etc.
