Work environment

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) prosecutes criminal offenses under federal jurisdiction. The organization has approximately 1000 employees who each play a key role in strengthening the Canadian criminal justice system.

We are located at Place Bell situated at 160 Elgin Street, an office complex in downtown Ottawa and next to the Rideau Canal and the Rideau Shopping Centre. This location offers easy access to restaurants, fitness facilities, walking/running paths and parks. We are conveniently located close to major bus routes making it easy to commute from all points across the city.

We are looking for someone to join the Corporate Planning & External Relations Division and become part of its Strategic Planning and Performance Management team; if you are looking for a challenge, there is no shortage of it! Your role as a Senior Evaluator and Researcher, among other things, will be to conduct research and evaluation projects for the PPSC, as well as contribute to horizontal initiatives. You will be responsible for leading and facilitating multi-disciplinary working groups, developing and implementing surveys, questionnaires and interviews, and providing recommendations to senior management. You will be managing interesting and complex projects, including developing a new evaluation strategy for the PPSC. You will work with various clients and stakeholders (mostly lawyers), as well as other government departments.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one indeterminate position. A pool of qualified candidates may be established from this process and may be used to staff similar positions at Public Prosecution Service of Canada in the National Capital Region, with varying tenures (such as indeterminate, specified period, acting, assignment/secondment) and with various linguistic profiles and requirements (such as bilingual imperative – BBB/BBB, CCC/CCC, CBC/CBC) according to the position to be staffed.

Education:

Graduation with a bachelor degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Note: Candidates must always have a university degree. The courses for the specialization do not necessarily have to be part of a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

- Significant* and recent** experience in conducting all phases of evaluation projects (planning, collecting both qualitative and quantitative data, analyzing data, providing recommendations and reporting), from beginning to the end.
- Experience planning and conducting empirical research activities.
- Experience developing and carrying out of surveys or questionnaires.
- Experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management on frameworks, methodologies or analytical tools related to research or evaluation.
- Experience in writing presentations, reports and briefing notes.

*Significant experience is assessed in terms of its breadth and depths as well as complexity of tasks and candidates must have at least two (2) years’ full time experience.

**Recent is defined within the past five (5) years.
