Duties

- The Nurse Practitioner performs comprehensive health assessments and synthesizes data from multiple sources for the purposes of conducting occupational health assessments, evaluations and services;
- Practices autonomously, offering the full scope of primary health care nurse practitioner practice (see appendices A & B), and is solely accountable for his/her actions while practicing;
- Consults with physicians or other health care professionals when the client's condition requires care beyond the scope of NP practice;
- Makes appropriate medical employment limitation recommendations and collaborates with a Physician if needed;
- Performs complete wellness and periodic health examinations including any education/supportive counseling/prescriptive and follow-up requirements as outlined in the Occupational Health Assessments Guide and the Public Service Occupational Health Program Policies and Procédures;
- Refers patients to other providers or programs in accordance with the client /patient's needs.

Intent of the process

There is currently one permanent position to fill in Montreal, Québec.
This process will also be used to create a pool of qualified candidates for similar positions with various tenures (temporary, permanent), at Health Canada, Quebec Region. Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for acting appointments.

EDUCATION
- Master's Degree in Nursing from a recognized university with acceptable specialization (Primary care or some other specialty relevant to the position) as a Nurse Practitioner.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) in a province or territory of Canada and a member in good standing in that province, or eligibility to become a member in good standing in the province of work.

EXPERIENCE
- Significant* and recent** experience in the direct provision of health services as a Nurse Practitioner including health assssments and immunizations.

Significant* will be evaluated in terms of the amount, complexity and diversity of work performed, and level of direct responsibility.
Recent** will be evaluated as greater than 2 years within the last 3 year period.

- Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing from the Canadian Nurses’ Association (CNA) .

EXPERIENCES
- Experience in conducting occupational health assessments or occupational screening tests.
- Experience in conducting patient disability and fitness to work evaluation.

KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of potential hazards and risks to health in various work environments.

N.B.: Each candidate can only undergo SLE testing one time within the context of an appointment process; any update to a candidate's linguistic profile must be as a result of subsequent SLE testing done outside of this appointment process.
