Amendment to closing date
Performs preventive maintenance such as inspecting, replacing components on schedule, testing and adjusting a variety of complex equipment and systems. Uses and performs maintenance on diesel generators.
Responds to breakdowns, diagnoses and repairs, adjusts and calibrates a variety of complex mechanical equipment and systems.
Overhauls (dismantles completely) and replaces defective parts, and cleans (uses chemical products), reassembles, tests, and adjusts a variety of complex mechanical equipment and systems.
Removes and/or installs major pieces of equipment.
Prepares detailed reports; accesses and updates computerized preventive maintenance schedules and records; orders parts and materials and estimates costs.
There is regular exposure to noise, dirt, toxic fumes and to minor injury when dismantling and installing equipment, extreme temperatures both indoor and outdoor and from lifting/carrying/installing heavy materials and equipment; there is frequent exposure to chemicals, refrigerants which may be toxic or corrosive. There is a requirement to wear protective clothing such as hard hat, safety boots, goggles and respiratory protective gear.
Immediate need: To staff a position on a full time permanent basis for the location indicated for this process.
Anticipatory: A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (Permanent Full Time, Permanent Part Time, Temporary Full Time, Temporary Part Time) within Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC).
Note: In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting or assignment/secondment opportunities.

A secondary school diploma or acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience performing preventative maintenance, diagnosis and repair/adjustments on complex mechanical equipment and building systems.
Experience completely dismantling and reassembling a variety of complex mechanical equipment and systems.
Experience in operating and maintaining various mechanical systems of a building including computerized building control systems.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of power equipment and hand tools.
Experience using computer programs for word processing and e-mail.
Experience operating and maintaining a research greenhouse, scientific plant growth equipment and laboratory facilities.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge of the operations, the operating principles and specifications of heating , air conditioning, ventilation and mechanical systems in a research environment.
Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures to ensure compliance, such as those relating to Canada Labour Code Part 2, National Building Code, Workers Compensation etc.
Knowledge of tools and diagnostic equipment as related to HVAC and building systems.
Knowledge of National Building Code, National Fire Code, Environmental Protection Act, Gas Utilization Codes Boiler Pressure Vessel Act, Canadian Electrical Code, Mechanical Refrigeration Code and Environmental Code of Practice for the Elimination of Fluorocarbon Emissions from Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems, April 2015.
