EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization* in economics, sociology or statistics.

You have at least two (2) years experience where you:

Led project teams, working groups and/or working level discussions of a multi-disciplinary nature to reconcile different viewpoints, to integrate and influence a broad range of strategies and plans, and to recommend options to decision makers.

Led or coordinated various stages of a complex initiative or project.

Synthesized complex ideas, developed options and provided strategic advice and recommendations to senior management.

Established and maintained harmonious relationships and networks of contacts, and built consensus with partners, and represented your organization by participating in various fora/committee.

Applying varied research methodologies, interpreting, predicting and explaining latest thinking and practices in subject areas relevant to the position. (Research and Knowledge)

EDUCATION (ASSET)

Graduation with a Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in economics, sociology, statistics, business/commerce, political science, public policy, mathematics, big data and data analytics or a related field.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in International Relations or Trade (Specialization is defined as a major or a minor degree).

Graduation with a Law degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Possession of a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Degree equivalency

DO YOU ALSO HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE:

Experience developing operational policy or functional guidance in a regulatory environment.

Experience in engaging and mobilizing federal science-based departments and agencies or the scientific community on science, innovation or technology related policy issues.

Experience in program performance management and reporting.

Experience writing in-depth documents (e.g., background papers, options papers, discussion papers) on complex subjects, in a clear, coherent and concise manner.

Experience undertaking research, analysis and providing advice pertaining to one or more of the following subject areas:
• copyright;
• international relations or trade negotiations;
• domestic trade;
• Canada’s bankruptcy and insolvency system;
• business finance;
• foreign investment;
• competition policy;
• science policy;
• innovation and technology-related policy;
• telecommunications policy;
• small business policy;
• tourism policy;
• micro-economic or industrial policy;
• spectrum, digital and ICT policies.

Experience in securities law and/or corporate transactions.

Experience in leading or coordinating the development of strategic policy advice to senior executives and/or offices of ministers on initiatives/strategies across the federal government and/or between the federal government and other levels of government.

Experience in applying data visualization and design techniques for effective communication of information that supports evidence-based decision making.

Experience in large scale data management, data base development, data mining or data analytics using such tools as SAS, SPSS, Python, SQL and R.
