Work environment

The Canadian Wildlife Service of Canada is responsible for implementing the departmental responsibilities for biodiversity, species at risk, migratory birds, habitat conservation and protected areas including ECCC’s own National Wildlife Areas and Migratory Bird Sanctuaries.

Intent of the process

To staff the position of Regional Director, Canadian Wildlife Service, Pacific (Delta, BC).

To create a pool of qualified candidates that will be used to staff similar EX-01 positions in various locations across Canada with various tenures (Acting, Assignment, Deployment, Indeterminate, Secondment, Specified period).

To create a pool of partially qualified candidates with various language profiles that will be used to staff similar EX-01 positions in various locations across Canada; with various tenures (Acting, Assignment, Deployment, Indeterminate, Secondment, Specified period). Candidates will be required to meet language proficiency prior to appointment.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a discipline relevant to the position.

EXPERIENCE

Significant experience* in managing the development or implementation of environmental or natural resources policies or programs.

Significant experience* in establishing effective working relationships, in engaging or negotiating with federal and provincial/territorial government officials, Indigenous Peoples and other stakeholders.

Experience in briefing senior management on sensitive and complex issues.

Experience in managing human and financial resources**.

Notes:
*Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this task, which are normally acquired over a period of at least three years.

**Managing means having direct authority for people reporting to you and directing an overall team of more than 5 people, and having direct responsibility for budget through at least one budgetary cycle.
