ANTICIPATORY STAFFING
A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the PC-01 and PC-02 group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry, forestry, geography, natural, environmental, or physical sciences relevant to the position.
ALL STREAMS:
Experience* in analyzing and interpreting large datasets of natural phenomena.
Experience* in scripting and programming languages (such as but not limited to R, Python, IDL).
Experience* in contributing to technical or scientific papers/reports.
Experience* in processing or summarizing data using statistical or graphical software.
Experience* in using different computer operating systems, including Windows and Unix/Linux.
* Experience for these qualifications between the PC levels is defined as work-related experience or post-secondary coursework of up to 2 years for the PC-01 level and 2 years and greater for the PC-02 level.

Information on language requirements
ALL STREAMS:
Introductory level of knowledge of boreal forest ecosystems including vegetation, soils, hydrology or disturbances.
Knowledge of methods and procedures for generating, compiling and analyzing data from field measurements.
The following qualifications are also applicable to the stream identified:
STREAM 1 (PC-01 and PC-02): Remote Sensing/Geomatics
Knowledge of the principles and methods of remote sensing techniques.
STREAM 2 (PC-01 and PC-02): Fire
Knowledge of the principles and methods of spatial analysis.
STREAM 3 (PC-01 and PC-02): Ecological Modelling
Knowledge of ecosystem structure and function.
Knowledge of some types of models, e.g., as used to simulate forest growth, insect population dynamics, fire behaviour, carbon cycling, soil-plant-atmosphere interactions.

STREAM 1 (PC-01 and PC-02): Remote Sensing/Geomatics
Experience in the analysis and interpretation of digital remote sensing data specific to applications in forest vegetation, inventory and natural disturbances.
STREAM 2 (PC-01 and PC-02): Fire
Experience in modelling wildland fire regimes or wildland fire spread.
Experience with ecological modelling concepts and methods.
Experience with experimental research theory and practice.
STREAM 3 (PC-01 and PC-02): Ecological Modelling
Experience in the use of computer simulation models, particularly of forests or other natural ecosystems.
Experience in obtaining and organizing data used as input to simulation models.
Experience in analysing and interpreting results generated by different kinds of models.
Experience in forest carbon modeling tools such as the CBM-CFS3.
Experience with field sampling, sample processing, tracking and field data compilation.
The following operational requirements may apply to some positions.
Willingness and ability to undertake occasional national and international travel.
Willingness and ability to undertake field work in remote forest regions under adverse conditions.
Valid driver’s license.
