ABOUT HEALTH CANADA
Health Canada is the Federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, while respecting individual choices and circumstances.
The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch supports the delivery of public health and health promotion services on-reserve and in Inuit communities. One such Program, Environmental Public Health Services (EPHS) is responsible for the direct delivery of eight core programs areas which include; Drinking Water Safety, Healthy Housing, Food Sanitation and Hygiene, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Wastewater, Solid Waste Disposal, Facilities Inspections, Environmental Contaminants and Research.
DUTIES
The Environmental Public Health Data Analyst position will be responsible for maintaining the EPHS information systems as well as conducting analysis and reporting of the resulting program data. The EPHS information systems are a group of integrated systems that generate public health surveillance and program specific data which is used to ensure the ongoing protection of public health and support evidence based decision making at the program and community level. The data analyst plays a key role in the ongoing maintenance of these systems as well as generating program specific reports and various business analysis tools used by Environmental Health Officers.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a temporary and/or permanent basis in Edmonton, Alberta.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
A certificate or diploma in information management or database infrastructure or relevant field of study.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in analysing and interpreting data using Geographical Information Systems (ArcGIS)
Experience in analysing and interpreting data using Business Intelligence (BI) Systems
Experience in the use of scientific programming, such as, SQL, SQL Server, Python, HTML5 or Silverlight
EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university or college with acceptable specialization in geography, engineering, information management or other subject relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience working with, collaborating with, or providing services to Aboriginal clients and/or communities
Experience using mobile computer operating systems, such as Blackberry 10, Windows 10 or Android OS
Experience using advanced GIS, BI analysis tools and software such as 3D analyst, Spatial Analyst or Onpoint
Experience in using Microsoft Sharepoint
Experience in design and development of tools to analyze and integrate health data into geographic modelling and making such tools available in multimedia formats
Experience in conducting GPS field surveys
Experience in server and database physical infrastructure including setup, development and maintenance

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:
In alignment with the Aboriginal Peoples Employment Program (APEP) in support of increasing Aboriginal representation in areas having the most impact on program delivery and health outcomes of FNIHB’s target population, selection may be limited to candidates self-identifying as belonging to Aboriginal peoples.
