Duties

Planning, development, management and implementation of CSC's communications program, including related policies, plans, strategies and products, for senior management and employees of the department, other stakeholders, the media and the public.

Organization
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Challenge
Candidates must be willing to work in a correctional environment where ongoing contact with federally sentenced inmates will be necessary.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to fill similar vacancies of permanent or temporary tenures (e.g. indeterminate, term, casual etc.) within Correctional Service Canada in the various locations.

Results of this process may be shared with other departments.

EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Communications, Journalism, or another field related to the duties of the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Based on their education, training and/or experience, indeterminate incumbents of positions in the IS classification are deemed to meet the minimum education standard whenever a bachelor's degree without specialization is called for in a position classified as IS.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Extensive and recent experience* in providing strategic communications advice and recommendations to both internal clients and senior management
Experience in managing the development and implementation of complex** communications strategies
Experience in writing and editing communications products such as memorandums, speaking notes, newsletters, news releases and backgrounders, media lines, speeches, social media content and serial publications
Experience* acting as a media relations spokesperson
Experience in building collaborative working relationship with a wide variety of stakeholders

*Experience normally accumulated over a cumulative period of approximately 2 years within the last 5 years.
**Complex is defined as having the following characteristics:
multidimensional, sensitive or confidential, affecting many partners or stakeholders, precedent-setting or having a potential for significant media coverage.
