Duties

The Senior Project Officer plays a pivotal role in the organization's institutional and community mental health services. The Senior Project Officer is part of a small team that conducts research, initiatives and leads projects and initiatives of a national, multi-dimensional nature and mainly of a high profile high visibility impact related to Correctional Service Canada institutional mental health services and programs for offenders with mental health disorders. The Senior Project officer is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to Correctional Service Canada staff on mental health projects and initiatives and to conduct reviews, studies and analyses and manages and coordinates the design, development and implementation of policies, guidelines, processes, etc. relating to institutional and community mental health services. The work also requires the development and delivery training programs for the use of Correctional Service Canada staff who provide mental health services.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one position indeterminately. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may by used to staff similar positions with Correctional Service Canada in the National Capital Region.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a master’s or doctoral degree or a from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in clinical, forensic or counselling psychology or some other specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION

Registration for autonomous practice of psychology by a provincial or territorial registering/licensing body.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in working in complex environments with competing management priorities, diverse deliverables, and the requirement for timely results.
Experience managing psychological or mental health projects.
Experience in the provision of psychological and/or mental health services.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EXPERIENCE

Experience in clinically supervising non-registered mental health staff.
Experience working with offenders in a community or institutional setting.

Knowledge of principles and applications of psychological services (including mental health services), such as assessment, treatment, programs and crisis intervention.
Knowledge of mental health issues as they pertain to diverse populations such as federally sentenced women and Aboriginal offenders
