As the Maintenance Manager, provides technical advice and building system maintenance support services to First Nation clients. The successful candidate will liaise with Health Canada colleagues and leadership in remote First Nation communities in Ontario in the operations and maintenance management of facilities in First Nation communities and in Sioux Lookout. The candidate will apply an understanding of trades in order to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry. Travel to address some of the maintenance issues in the remote First Nation Communities will be required; therefore the candidate must be capable of completing necessary work to address deficiencies.
The candidate will develop maintenance plans including prioritization of deficiencies and implementation of work plans for remediation. Management of employees and of service contracts and contractors in completion of the necessary work is required. The candidate will provide client service, communication and coordination with various stakeholders including reporting of work completion.
Health Canada is the Federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, while respecting individual choices and circumstances. The Real Property and Security Directorate (RPSD) provides corporate real property services and manages the real property assets of the Department, as well as maintains the security and safety of Health Canada (HC) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) employees.
The immediate need is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Sioux Lookout, Ontario.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established from this process and may be used to staff similar positions at Health Canada with varying tenures (such as indeterminate, specified period, acting, assignment/secondment).

Secondary School Diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience working in the field of building trades including mechanical, electrical, or other building related operations, construction, or design.
Experience in developing and implementing maintenance plans as it relates to facilities management.
Experience in the proficient use of applicable computer software and operating systems (ie: Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word etc. )
Knowledge of Federal and Provincial building codes and construction practices.
Knowledge of building systems.
Knowledge of building life-cycle management principles.
Knowledge of safety regulations and practices related to construction.
Ability to supervise employees.
Ability to assess facility and equipment condition, prioritize, plan and schedule maintenance and repair projects.
Ability to effectively respond to building related emergencies.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to prepare correspondence and reports.

Willingness and ability to work in and around construction sites, including wearing protective clothing.
Possession of a valid Ontario driver’s license.
Frequent travel by small aircraft, boat or other vehicle as per the demands of the job to communities in remote areas in all types of weather conditions.
