The first withdrawal of candidatures will be held the 28th of April, 2017. All subsequent withdrawal of applications will be held twice a year in spring and fall each year.

Candidates must meet each essential qualification which are listed on the statement of merit criteria for appointment to a position. Duties

Delivery of food and catering services to the crew and occasional passengers, such as scientists, on board Canadian Coast Guard vessels.

Key Tasks:

Plans, organizes, directs, controls and coordinates the preparation of food;

Maintain and keep clean the galley, food storage areas and the dining room and its equipment;

Plan and prepare the menus onboard the vessel for periodic, official and special meals;

Resolve disputes with suppliers by determining the cause and taking the necessary corrective measures, with the support of the Commanding Officer and the Supply Officer;

Order / receive, inspect, check quantities, stow and protect food supplies;

Ensure a high level of food safety and sanitation throughout the logistics services areas, specifically the galley area, refrigerators and freezers and the food storage areas, as well as the dining room;

Participate in emergency security and safety drills onboard the vessel when required, such as firefighting and abandon ship drills, the retrieval of a person overboard, damage control and other operations such as search and rescue;

Provide table service.

Work environment

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) owns and operates the Federal Government's civilian fleet, and provides key maritime services to Canadians.

As a Special Operating Agency of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), the CCG helps DFO meet its responsibility to ensure safe and accessible waterways for Canadians.

The CCG also plays a key role in ensuring the sustainable use and development of Canada's oceans and waterways.

Intent of the process

The purpose of this process is to create an inventory of candidates that will be used to fill in temporary needs for vessel crew stations in the CCG, in the region of Central and Arctic - St Lawrence sector. We expect the established directory will be used for 2017, 2018 and 2019 with possibility of extension.

Education:

Vocational diploma (DEP) in cooking or pastry or College diploma (DEC) in catering management and/or Ship's Crew Cook professional certification or cooking professional certification.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Significant (*1) experience in planning and providing food service delivery activities.

*1 Significant: at least 3 years of employment in the field.

Professional Certifications:

Experiences:

** Experience as a Chief-cook on board a Canadian Coast Guard vessel;

Experience as a cook on board a vessel.

Only for the vessels assigned to the RCMP program:

In addition to the Secret Security Clearance candidates MUST be willing and able to successfully pass a Law Enforcement Records and Credit Check (LERCC), when required.

Valid medical certificate;

Must hold Marine Emergency Duties training certificates: Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats and Basic Safety (STCW). The candidate has six months from the first day of employment to obtain the certificate, and the cost of this training is not covered by the employer;

Agreement to being deployed anywhere in Canada or assigned to different navigation activities;

Agree to work onboard CCG ships and go to sea for extended periods and work long hours under adverse sea conditions;

Agree to wear the uniform in the prescribed manner, as well as the mandatory personal protective equipment; For the NEW EMPLOYEES: Employees must purchase protective footwear that meets the CSA standard at their own expense before employment begins;

Must be willing to take training in respiratory protection and wear a breathing apparatus. In compliance with the rules and instructions regarding the wearing of a breathing apparatus on board CCG vessels, employees must be disposed to achieving and maintaining a non-leaking face piece-to-skin seal with the mask of the breathing apparatus;

Agree to travel by land, air and water;

Possess a valid Canadian passport in the case of appointments to vessels governed by this requirement.
