Duties

Assists with the operations, maintenance, repair, and construction projects for the buildings, services, infrastructure, fleet, and grounds, to meet the research, facility management and regulatory requirements of an Agricultural Research Centre under the direction and in consultation with the Facilities Manager.

Work environment

As one of the 20 research sites in Canada, the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre is located in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Lethbridge site is responsible for conducting various agricultural research studies for the Government of Canada. This position works in conjunction with a staff of 20 other employees to support the research by ensuring that the facilities and infrastructure are maintained in accordance with regulated maintenance and codes as well by meeting the requirements of the research programs at the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre.

Intent of the process

Immediate need: To staff a position on a full time permanent basis for the location indicated for this process.

Anticipatory: A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a permanent full-time or part-time basis or on a temporary full-time or part-time basis for the location indicated for this process.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting or assignment/secondment opportunities. The approval of his/her substantive supervisor will be required before acting/assignment/secondment is offered.

Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution or possession of a valid journeyman certificate.

Degree equivalency

Experience managing a work unit in a trades related field.

Experience assisting with the creation and implementation of maintenance programs, small construction projects, and daily maintenance and resource activities involving trades.

Experience estimating, monitoring, and verifying expenditures for trade related work units.

Experience in specification writing for tendered projects in trade related fields.

Experience coordinating and scheduling multiple construction trades in order to effectively plan maintenance and repairs.
