Important messages

Our immediate need is to staff the Mechanical Technicians first. Those who apply to the Electrical stream will be screened and assessed at a later time.

We encourage you to apply even if you are in the process of obtaining a journeyman certificate. A journeyman certificate is not required until the time of appointment.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff positions with various tenures (indeterminate, term, acting, assignment, deployment) and may also be used for similar positions.

A covering letter in 5,000 words (maximum) "Please state in the following cover letter WHICH stream you will be applying to, WHAT occupational certification you possess and WHEN and WHERE you received it. Failure to do so may result in your application from being further considered. Please note: if you do not currently possess a journeyman certificate, then please state at what point you are at in your apprenticeship program and when you anticipate obtaining a journeyman certificate. You must also clearly demonstrate HOW, WHEN, and WHERE you meet the experience criteria through substantiation by examples. Your cover letter will be used to assess your “Ability to communicate effectively in writing”. Please ensure you use proper sentence structure and formatting when you are writing your cover letter."

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Stream 1
Mechanical Technician-Victoria and Prince Rupert, BC
Occupational Certification: Possession of a valid Inter-Provincial Journeyman Certification in one of the following trades: Heavy Duty, Automotive Mechanic, Marine Engineer, Millwright or Pipefitter Certification.

Stream 2
Electrical Technician-Prince Rupert, BC and Hay River, NWT
Occupational Certification: Possession of a valid Inter-Provincial journeyman electrical trade certification.

All Streams:

Experience in various trade activities required for the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment.

Experience working in field or remote site operations.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Additional trades certification or formal trades specific training in the respective field associated to a journeyman level.
Current Fall Protection Certification.

Experience in the construction, modification, maintenance, repair, of or life cycle management CCG Aids to Navigation, associated facilities or assets.
Experience in working with helicopters.

Ability to climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m.
Willing and able to travel for up to 3 week periods of time to remote sites via; trucks, boats and aircraft.
Willing and able to work weekends/overtime and travel on short notice.
Willing and able to access remote sites over rugged terrain and work outdoors in extremes of environmental conditions.
