The first withdrawal of candidatures will be held the 28th of April, 2017. All subsequent withdrawal of applications will be held twice a year in spring and fall each year.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate in the screening questions how they meet the education and/or professional certification and experiences listed under essential qualifications and under other qualifications (assets). Candidates must meet each essential qualification which are listed on the statement of merit criteria for appointment to a position. Food and catering services to the Canadian Coast Guard ship's complement and passengers.
Key Tasks:
• Provides assistance to the Logistics or Supply Officer in planning the ship's daily menu and assist with the cyclical, formal and special menus.
• Modifies recipes to suit the dietary and special needs of passengers and crew, prepares and cooks all food.
• Coordinates the operation and maintenance of the galley and its equipment.
• Supervises staff and manages galley inventory.
• Plans, organizes, directs, controls and coordinates the operation of the galley.
• Ensures a high standard of food safety and sanitation throughout the galley and mess room areas.
• Participates in shipboard emergency and safety drills, fire fighting, and abandoning ship and other operations such as search and rescue as required.
• Assists under the direction of the Rescue Specialist in First Aid procedures as applicable to individuals and groups during rescue operations and care for persons on board.
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) owns and operates the Federal Government's civilian fleet, and provides key maritime services to Canadians.
As a Special Operating Agency of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), the CCG helps DFO meet its responsibility to ensure safe and accessible waterways for Canadians.
The CCG also plays a key role in ensuring the sustainable use and development of Canada's oceans and waterways.
The purpose of this process is to create an inventory of candidates that will be used to fill in temporary needs for vessel crew stations in the CCG, in the region of Central and Arctic - St Lawrence sector. We expect the established directory will be used for 2017, 2018 and 2019 with possibility of extension.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Education:
Vocational diploma (DEP) in cooking OR College diploma (DEC) in restaurant management and/or Ship's Crew Cook Certification.
Have very significant(*4) and recent(*2) experience in meal service and preparation ;
Significant experience(*1) in supervising staff in activities related to the provision of food services;
Experience in menu planning for a large number of customers.
*1 Significant: at least 1 year of employment in the field.
*2 Recent : In the past 10 years.
*4 Very significant: more than 5 years of employment in the field without necessarily being recent.
Professional certification:
Hygiene and food safety certificate.
Experience:
Experience as a cook or as a chief cook on a Canadian Coast Guard ship;
Significant(*1) experience as chief cook on a ship;
Significant(*3) experience as a chief cook in an institutional setting or a restaurant.

Others Conditions of Employment:
Valid medical certificate;
Must hold Marine Emergency Duties training certificates: Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats and Basic Safety (STCW). For a temporary position, the candidate has six months from the first day of employment to obtain the certificate, and the cost of this training is not covered by the employer;
Agreement to being deployed anywhere in Canada or assigned to different navigation activities;
Agree to work onboard CCG ships and go to sea for extended periods and work long hours under adverse sea conditions;
Agree to wear the uniform in the prescribed manner, as well as the mandatory personal protective equipment: For the NEW EMPLOYEES: Employees must purchase protective footwear that meets the CSA standard at their own expense before employment begins;
Must be willing to take training in respiratory protection and wear a breathing apparatus. In compliance with the rules and instructions regarding the wearing of a breathing apparatus on board CCG vessels, employees must be disposed to achieving and maintaining a non-leaking face piece-to-skin seal with the mask of the breathing apparatus;
Agree to travel by land, air and water;
Possess a valid Canadian passport in the case of appointments to vessels governed by this requirement.
