Duties

Working within the department of professional Services of the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) in collaboration with the regional dentist on files concerning Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) and with the coordinator of the Children Oral Health Initiative program (COHI) on the application of the prevention program, the Dental Services Coordinator position offers opportunities for the candidate to emphasize his professional skills and interpersonal aptitudes as well as in customer service and financial resource management. To coordinate the services, to accompany the external and internal clientele and to apply a dental public health program are the tasks inherent to the position.

Intent of the process

There is currently one permanent position available. This process will be used to create a pool of qualified candidates for similar positions with various tenures (temporary, permanent), at Health Canada, Quebec Region. Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for acting appointments.

EDUCATION
Post-secondary school diploma in dental hygiene from a recognized institution.

Degree equivalency

PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION
Member of the “Ordre des hygiénistes dentaires du Québec” (OHDQ) or of an equivalent association from another province in Canada OR are you eligible to become a member within a 4-month period.

EXPERIENCE
- Work experience in First Nations communities.
- Work experience in dental public health.
- Work experience in private dental clinic.

KNOWLEDGE
- Basic knowledge of anatomical oral structure and their functions.
- Knowledge of the pathogenesis of caries and curative and preventive treatments related to dental hygiene and dental treatment at large.

- Ability to prioritize and organize the workload in order to meet deadlines and objectives.

Candidates who have been fully assessed and found to have met all essential qualifications except official language requirements may update their second-language evaluation (SLE) results for as long as the pool is/pools are valid. N.B.: Each candidate can only undergo SLE testing one time within the context of an appointment process; any update to a candidate's linguistic profile must be as a result of subsequent SLE testing done outside of this appointment process.

N.B.: Candidates must meet each essential qualification to be appointed to the position. A candidate may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications or organizational needs. However, meeting some of these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.
