Duties

Guides, advises, and assists offenders in their safe reintegration to the community by motivating and encouraging offenders to acquire pro-social skills, adopt pro-social behaviours and participate actively in their reintegration.

Performs tasks related to safety and security in the community by helping to ensure that the Community Correctional Centre (CCC) complies with all policies and standards pertaining to the safety and protection of the public, staff, offenders and the CCC.

Work environment

Organization
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Challenge
Candidates must be willing to work in a correctional environment where ongoing contact with federally sentenced inmates will be necessary.

Intent of the process

A pool of candidates will be established to staff part-time positions (0.5) in Community Correctional Centres (CCC) in the Atlantic Region (Saint John, NB; St. John’s, NL; and Halifax, NS). The pool of candidates could be used to staff positions on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

A secondary school diploma, or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma, or a successful completion of a provincially/territorially approved secondary school equivalency test.

Degree equivalency

Experience with interventions aimed at changing human behaviour.

Experience in the creation of documents and/or reports using word processing and spreadsheet programs such as Word or Excel.

Sociology;

Degree equivalency

Experience working in partnership with components of the criminal justice system or outside organizations providing support to offenders.

Experience in case management practices and/or process.

Experience in security practices and/or process.

Experience in facilitating information sessions.

Experience working with offenders.

Priority may be given to members of Employment Equity groups.

The incumbent may be required to work overtime, often on short notice.

The incumbent may be required to work evenings.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Some of these positions require possession of a valid driver’s license or mobility usually associated with having a valid driver’s license.
