This position provides research and scientific services to assess the chemical and physical properties of historic and artistic objects, natural history specimens and related materials. This position develops new, or modifies existing techniques, methodologies or instrumentation pertaining to the study, scientific examination, and physical and chemical analysis of cultural property through scientific research. This position communicates concepts, ideas and research results through written reports and publications or oral communications
A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates resulting from this selection process will be created and may be used to fill the same or similar positions with various linguistic profiles and language requirements (such as English or French essential, bilingual imperative level - BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC or CCC/CCC), various security requirements (reliability, secret) as well as tenures (term, indeterminate) within the department of Canadian Heritage.

EDUCATION
A master of science or doctorate from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in chemistry or another science discipline relevant to the position OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience. A degree from a post-secondary institution in a science discipline relevant to the position is mandatory.
EXPERIENCE
Extensive and recent experience* with powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) and associated identification software applied to the analysis of unknown samples
Extensive and recent experience* in instrumental methods of analysis applied to inorganic compounds
Extensive and recent experience* in scientific research and in carrying out bibliographic search
*Extensive and recent experience is defined as follows: at least two years of carrying out the activity as a principal function during the last five years.

Knowledge of the chemistry of inorganic compounds or materials such as pigments, corrosion products, metals, ceramics and glass
