You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Occupational Certification:

Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Master, Near Coastal or higher.
OR
Possession of a current Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate, Near Coastal and suitable combination of education and experience in marine management and / or marine operations.

Experience:

Recent** related experience as ship’s Master.

OR

Recent** experience in marine operations and fleet management, including personnel leadership, administration and supervision of ships’ officers and crews.

Experience using Microsoft Office applications.

** Recent is defined as being within the last five (5) years

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Certification in Marine Advanced First Aid.
Certification in WHMIS 2015.
Expenditure Management Certification for Section 32 & 34 of the Financial Administration Act.

Experience in Government of Canada marine management and operations as Master of a vessel engaged in Near Coastal voyages.

Experience in ship berthing or towing.

Experience in leadership, supervision and administration of multiple personnel in a team environment.

Experience in provision of marine and / or technical support services to a varied client base.

Experience in financial resource management in accordance with Government of Canada policies.

Higher level of certification than the minimum for future succession and promotional considerations.
Must be willing and able to travel as required.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Maintain a valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency.
Maintain a valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate as well as meet the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines.
Fitness to wear a respirator.
