Duties

What You Will Be Doing

As a Corporate Services Branch employee, the successful candidate (s) will liaise with First Nation communities in Ontario in the creation of contribution agreements to support operations and maintenance and required repairs and capital investments in health facilities. The work duties also include providing oversight on the project delivery ensuring that design standards and required codes are adhered to according to scope and that the projects remain on time and on budget. Additional duties include data analysis, developing estimates and budget management.

Work environment

Health Canada is the Federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, while respecting individual choices and circumstances. The Real Property and Security Directorate (RPSD) provides corporate real property services and manages the real property assets of the Department, as well as maintains the security and safety of Health Canada (HC) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) employees

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Ottawa as well as two eight (8) month term positions (with the possibility of extension) in Sioux Lookout and/or Thunder Bay. A pool of qualified candidates will be established from this process and may be used to staff similar positions at Health Canada with varying tenures (such as indeterminate, specified period, acting, assignment/secondment).

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

Degree equivalency

Experience in planning, developing, and implementing maintenance programs as it relates to facilities management.

Experience in the financial management (including creation of budgets and cash flows) of projects spanning several months or more in duration.

Experience in negotiation as it relates to construction.

Experience in project management as it relates to construction.

Experience in the proficient use of applicable computer software and operating systems (ie: Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word etc.)

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

College Diploma in architecture or in building systems engineering technology.

Degree equivalency

Occupation Certification:
Possession of a Project Management certification as it relates to construction.

Possession of a journeyman' s certificate in one of the disciplines of the construction trades.

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
Experience working with First Nation communities in the delivery of Federal Programs.

Experience in providing advice and assistance to First Nations organizations.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Ontario driver's license.
Frequent travel by small aircraft, boat or other vehicle as per the demands of the job to communities in remote areas in all types of weather conditions.
Ability to work overtime on short notice.
