Research scientists perform their work in pursuance of departmental mandates in order to attain specified outcomes and to conceptualize, identify, formulate and set in motion new outcomes in delivering programs, meeting the future needs of the department.
Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) is the national leader in defence and security science and technology. As an agency of Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND), DRDC provides DND, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and other government departments as well as public safety and national security communities the knowledge and technological advantage needed to defend and protect Canada’s interests at home and abroad. DRDC is comprised of eight research centres across Canada. The agency comprises 1400 employees.

Doctoral or Post-doctoral training in a relevant discipline carried out at a recognized university, research institute or government laboratory.

AE2. Experience formulating, proposing, conducting, and managing human sciences research and development projects.
AE3. Experience working with the military.
AE4. Experience undertaking applied science on behalf of and reporting results and recommendations to clients (industrial, commercial, government etc.)
AE5. Experience building formal partnerships with external academic or other research organizations to share the work being carried out for a project.
AE6. Experience working in a project management environment.
AE7. Experience preparing statements of requirements for research to be delivered by contract.
AK1. Knowledge of the ethical issues associated with human sciences research as evidenced by experience writing successful research protocols.
AK2. Knowledge of military client needs , defence scientific programs or current defence technology.

Willingness to work overtime.
Short-term mobility is expected to various locations within and outside of Canada throughout your career as a Defence Scientist by accepting assignments, working on committees, and special projects.
