Intent of the process

The intend of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates which could be used to staff positions at Maurice Lamontagne Institute in Mont-Joli (Quebec).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized university in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position (such as fish or wildlife biology, ecology, oceanography, environmental science, management of living resources) or an employer-approved alternative.

The employer-approved alternative is a master's degree coupled with demonstrated research, application or training. The degree must be from a recognized university and in a field of the natural sciences and specialty related to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

- Significant* experience in managing scientific teams.
- Significant* experience in managing human and financial resources.
- Experience in setting research priorities, planning and managing science programs or projects.
- Experience in establishing or maintaining partnerships or collaborative programs with governments, industry or academia.
- Experience in providing science, policy or management advice to senior management.

* Significant is defined as depth and breadth typically associated with having carried out these activities on a regular basis over a period of three years or more, but not necessarily continuously.

- Knowledge of science organizations and networks in Canada related to fish or aquatic wildlife , management of living resources or oceanographic science and management, particularly for aquatic species.
- Knowledge of theories, principles and applications for natural resource management in experimental design, statistical analyses or environmental modelling.

- Ability to provide management and scientific leadership for a multi-disciplinary organization.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to engage with diverse organizations and experts to reach common goals.

- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary scientific staff related to one or more of the following: fish stock assessment, fish population dynamics, wildlife population assessment, ecosystems health, aquatic research laboratories, ocean or coastal sciences, marine or freshwater ecology, or aquaculture.

- Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies in employment, human resources management and finances management in the federal government.
- Knowledge of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and its key science priorities and programs
