Duties

Under the direction of a research scientist, provides scientific and technical assistant to meet the needs of on-going and new research programs addressing the national research priorities in the Science and Technology Branch of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada by conducting controlled environment studies, field experiments and data analyses, which assist in the development of new knowledge and technologies to enhance sustainable agriculture production and sustain or improve environmental quality

Graduation with a college diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in agriculture sciences Or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

*Recent experience in farming machinery, calibration and operation of related scientific equipment.

*Recent experience in implementing plot and farm-scale field experiments.

Experience in the operation of meteorological equipment and data loggers.

Experience in planning and conducting research experiments and contributing to experimental design.

*Recent experience is defined as experience obtained within the past 5 years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience in the technical operation and calibration of farm machinery and scientific equipments adapted to agricultural research.

Possession of a valid D-Z driver’s license.

Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work including moderate to heavy manual labour requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (up to 20 kg).

Ability and willingness to obtain an Ontario Growers Pesticide Applicators License.

Ability and willingness to control allergies, through use of protective mask and/or medication, and they must not impinge on tasks to be performed.

Ability and willingness to work in a potentially hazardous environment with exposure to pesticides, corrosive chemicals, animal manure and sunburn.

Conditions of employment
