Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff one (1) indeterminate english essential and reliable position in Yellowknife (NWT). Please note that a pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions within Environment and Climate Change Canada in Yellowknife (NWT) ONLY, on various tenures (Indeterminate, Determinate, Deployment, Acting, Assignment and extensions) and with various security profiles (Reliability or Secret).

EDUCATION:

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.

1.The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience* providing scientific or technical advice on environmental programs or projects.

Experience* in collaborating with officials from the federal government, provincial or territorial government, indigenous groups, municipalities, or industry on environmental issues.

Experience* in the evaluation, remediation or management of contaminated sites.

Experience* in applying science expertise related to environmental protection such as: hydrogeology, hydrology, water quality, air quality, contaminated sites, sediment management, or sampling methodology.

*Relevant experience obtained by the candidate that would normally have been acquired for a period of one (1) years during the last five (5) years.

Knowledge of Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan (FCSAP) program and related policy, guidance and tools.

Knowledge of environmental impacts associated with contaminated sites and of characterization and soil and groundwater remediation methods.

Knowledge of assessment and environmental risk management procedures associated with contaminated sites.

ASSETS CRITERIA

EDUCATION:

Post-graduate degree from a recognized university in a natural, physical or applied science with a specialization in a field relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in working in the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan (FCSAP) Program.

Experience in leading matrix teams or working groups or in supervision.

Experience with Indigenous consultations.

Experience in contributing to the development of environmental policy and / or guidance documents.

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of priorities of Environment and Climate Change Canada relating to environmental protection.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Willing and able to travel for business requirements as needed on short notice.

Must be able to make on-site visits to industrial facilities and remote field sites.

Willing and able to work overtime; and at times work weekends, statutory/provincial/territorial holidays and irregular hours.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid Driver’s license.
