Duties

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to investigate the sedimentation behavior of bio-derived oils in aqueous environments with various sediment types. The research will also explore effective shoreline cleaning strategies to improve spill response and environmental recovery efforts.

The successful candidate will be involved in the following activities:
• Literature Review: Conducting a comprehensive review of existing research on the sedimentation behaviour of bio-derived oils in aqueous environments with various sediment types, as well as potential shoreline cleaning strategies
• Experimental Design and Execution: Designing and carrying out bench-scale experiments to fill gaps identified during the review process
• Data Analysis: Analyzing experimental data, interpreting results, and documenting findings
• Reporting: Contributing to the preparation of research reports and scientific papers, as well as presenting findings to team members

Work environment

CanmetENERGY Devon research centre is located within a 20-minute drive from south Edmonton. Although there is no public transit available to the research centre, carpooling arrangements can be made.

The successful candidate can expect to work with research scientists, technologists, chemists and engineers and will contribute to scientific publications related to contaminant transport studies undertaken.
