Duties

The Engineer Recruit position will work together with the Yukon’s Northern Contaminated Sites team on the remediation of contaminated sites in Yukon’s portfolio. The team works on the following sites: United Keno Hill Mines, Mount Nansen, Clinton Creek, Ketza River, Arctic Gold and Silver Mill and Tailings, Venus Mill and Tailings and several smaller Waste Management sites identified through the Devolution Transfer Agreement.

The Yukon’s Northern Contaminated Sites team consists of 19 people. The team has a strong technical focus with 15 engineering and environmental science positions.

The expected focus of the successful candidates will be split between assisting all project teams with general program administration and advancing the remediation at the United Keno Hill Mines, Mount Nansen, Clinton Creek and Ketza River sites by providing specific day-to-day project management support to those teams. The management team will evaluate the distribution of projects once these positions are filled based on all team members skill set, experience, history, interest and career development needs.

The main duties of the position are:
✔️ Assist in the implementation of an agreement with a private company for the remediation of the United Keno Hill Mines and Mount Nansen sites.
✔️ Assist team with day-to-day project management tracking for the United Keno Hill Mines, Mount Nansen, Clinton Creek and Ketza River projects.
✔️ Conduct technical research and present finding to teams as requested.
✔️ Conduct analyses, both technical and financial, for project teams as requested.
✔️ Liaise with Northern Abandoned Mines Reclamation Program officials in the National Capital Region and coordinate Yukon’s responses to their inquiries and requests.

Intent of the process

📢 The immediate intent of the process is to staff indeterminately two positions at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established, which could be used to staff temporary, and/or permanent positions, with similar qualifications, various linguistic profiles, various security requirements, and/or various tenures at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, within the Yukon Region. Conditions of employment may vary according to the positions to be staffed.

Positions are located in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. If not already a resident in Whitehorse, YT, the selected candidate will have to relocate to Whitehorse. The remote work is not possible.

EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

• Experience with engineering or construction documents
• Experience in project or program management

7. Online assessments may be scheduled, and applicants will be invited to participate in these assessments via email. Applicants MUST make themselves available within the time span of the testing phase. The written/online exam MAY be administered outside of regular working hours including evenings and weekends.
