As the Visitor Safety Coordinator (VSC) your primary responsibilities are to manage and coordinate programs related to the safety of visitors, response and management of emergency incident, environmental spill and contamination, and human-wildlife coexistence. The VSC is also required to provide specialized technical recommendations to the site management team. The role also includes the planning and organization of training for staff to maintain the skills and knowledge necessary to support the Visitor Safety Program safely and efficiently. The job can be physically and mentally demanding, requiring that you work in remote locations of the park, under adverse weather conditions with limited means of communications.

EDUCATION
•Two-years post-secondary program in outdoor recreation, medical, physical or mental health, incident management or other fields related to the position; OR
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience coordinating and participating in emergency incident management;
• Experience developing and maintaining professional relationships, and collaborating and working with emergency services officials: Police Services, Fire Department, Coast Guard, Spill Action Centres, Conservation Officers (Provincial and Federal), Medical services, Provincial Bear Management Technician etc.;
• Experience travelling in the wilderness with limited ways of communication by different means of transportation.

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of principles, standards, techniques and procedures involved in incident management, including the principles of the Incident Command System (ICS);
• Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, and heritage of Pukaskwa National Park;
• Knowledge of landscapes features and associate environmental challenges found in Pukaskwa National Park.
ABILITIES
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team, maintaining positive relationships, getting buy-in from others who are not reporting to the position, coaching and training staff;
• Ability to maintain an extensive equipment inventory, including vessels, ATVs, search and rescue equipment, call out lists, VHF radios, and first aid supplies;
• Ability to make and communicate meteorological observations;
• Ability to use a computer, tablet, and various software and applications related to communication, data acquisition and management;
• Ability to prepare reports, summaries, and make recommendations to management on issues related to visitor safety and incident management.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience working in an emergency response organization/team or having served in the military;
• Level of experience being part of Incident Command Team at various level and functions;
• Level of experience operating a vessel, ATV and hiking in remote locations.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
• Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of various forms of ground (e.g. all-terrain vehicles) and marine (motorized and non-motorized vessels) as required.
• Obtain & maintain Reliability Security Status;
• Complete a pre-employment medical (and periodic medical assessments);
• Willing to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime, if required;
• Willing & able to wear a Parks Canada uniform, safety equipment and follow safety procedures;
• Valid Class "G" driver's license;
• Successful completion of ICS level 100 and 200, or higher level of incident management training (organized by the park);
• Successful completion of the Small Vessel Operator Proficiency and Basic Safety trainings (organized by the park);
• Successful completion of Advanced Wilderness First Aids or higher level of training (organized by the park);
• Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (organized by the park).
