Duties

As part of the energetic Visitor Experience team in Dawson, this specific Facilities Attendants position is responsible for the cleaning and basic maintenance of multiple VE office spaces. You will be working in Parks Canada buildings as well as other public-use areas. Among your other duties, the maintenance tasks could include replacing light bulbs, tightening screws on door handles and hinges, and nails sticking out of board walks.

As an integral part of our visitor experience team, your work will directly impact our VE staff, by providing them with a clean and safe environment to work in.

The Yukon Field Unit is one of the most diverse field units across the country.

Intent of the process

This process is intended to fill anticipated vacancies with the visitor experience team year-round.

This process will be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic profiles in same or other parts of the country.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a secondary school diploma or approved alternatives or an acceptable combination of training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE IN:
•Experience in providing cleaning services (in facilities such as commercial or institutional environments, other facilities may be considered.)
•Experience in maintaining/restocking supplies.
•Experience in performing minor operational maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, tightening door handles and hinges)
•Experience with safe product handling (WHMIS).
•Experience working independently with minimal supervision.

KNOWLEDGE:
•Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures, equipment, and supplies.
•Knowledge of WHMIS legislation pertaining to the use and storage of supplies.

The following qualifications may be applied and/or assessed because they are beneficial in carrying out the duties of the position. They may be used in screening, assessment or determining right fit for this selection process, so please describe how you meet any of the following criteria.

ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
•Standard First Aid with CPR/AED;
•Experience in using floor machinery such as buffers, strippers, polishers.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

•Conduct repetitive tasks.
•Stand, bend, stretch and work from stools/ladders.
•Lift supplies, tools, and equipment such as buckets.
•Dust and wash walls and windows.
•Sweep, mop, vacuum floors.
•Pick up litter and trash.
•Travel to different sites with some exposure to weather elements.
•Be exposed to noxious odors from cleaning products.
•May be exposed to minor injury when performing cleaning and maintenance activities.
•Demonstrate tasks to others, if required.
