Duties

The primary responsibilities of the Electronic-Optronic Technician is to:

Inspect, test, identify faults in, adjust, repair, recondition and modify electrical, electromechanical, electronic, electro-optic and mechanical equipment, optical instruments, and control systems for weapons and missiles.

• Repair surveillance and thermal observation systems;
• Maintain fibre-optic systems;
• Repair laser systems;
• Maintain optical, electrical and electronic test equipment;
• Repair portable and trailer-mounted power-generating systems; and
• Operate and maintain general-purpose and specialized tools and equipment.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process, and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

EDUCATION
The minimum standard is:
 A secondary school diploma; and
 Completion of an acceptable training program in electronics technology or the employer-approved alternative.

The employer-approved alternative is as follows:
 An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Note:
Normally, an acceptable training program in electronics technology involves the completion of two to three years of post-secondary study in this subject.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
 EX1: Experience working in the Electronic Optronic trade.
 EX2: Experience troubleshooting electronic equipment.
 EX3: Experience planning, coordinating and managing electronic equipment, test equipment or telecommunication systems.
 EX4: Experience in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of electronic equipment and related auxiliary equipment.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
 Willing and able to work overtime and on weekends.
 Willing and able to work on board ships, possibly in confined spaces.
 Willing and able to work in both indoor and outdoor conditions.
 Willing and able to be employed in various Base Logistic Transport Electrical and Mechanical Engineer (TEME) locations in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) to include Shearwater, Halifax and CFAD Bedford.
