Duties

The Visitor Facilities Attendant performs a full range of janitorial assignments to maintain clean and safe buildings and grounds including:

- Cleaning and maintaining visitor/public buildings/facilities;
- Cleaning and maintaining diversified accommodations;
- Conduct general cleaning around buildings, grounds, public-use areas such as visitor centers, campgrounds, beach areas and walkways;
- Lock and unlock buildings and gates;
- Observe appearance and condition of premises and equipment; report needed repairs, safety hazards, or conditions requiring servicing;
- Maintain / restock inventory of cleaning and toiletry supplies;
- Contribute to visitor experience by responding to general inquiries and direct visitors to sources of information and service areas.

Intent of the process

This process is intended to fill existing vacancy(ies) and may be used to fill anticipated vacancy(ies) and/or used to create a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures (Indeterminate, Acting, Assignment, Deployment, Secondment, Specified period, Seasonal), security levels or linguistic profiles for the Northern New Brunswick Field Unit.

EDUCATION:

Successful completion of secondary school education or Public Service Commission approved alternatives, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience working in a variety of teams;
- Experience in anticipating/meeting public needs, resolving complaints, anticipating/detecting incidents and finding solutions;
- Experience in providing cleaning services (in facilities such as commercial or institutional environments, other facilities may be considered);
- **(Asset) Experience with information technology (computer, email software).

Must be able to communicate (read, write and speak) fluently in English and French.

- Knowledge of Parks Canada operations and the natural and cultural history of Kouchibouguac National Park;
- Knowledge of services, programs/activities, and visitor services operations and fees of Kouchibouguac National Park;
- General knowledge of visitor experience prevention guidelines.

ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certification (training provided);
- Possession of a valid Driver's license;
- Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
- Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/ territorial holidays;
- Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, and by various means of transportation;
- Willingness to perform certain physical tasks as per job requirements (e.g. lifting up to 20 kgs);
- Position requires moderate physical effort to sit and stand for prolonged periods and/or to clean facilities/grounds, bending, and stretching; lifting supplies, tools and equipment such as buckets; scrubbing and waxing floors; dusting and washing walls and windows; sweeping walkways and stairs; picking up litter and trash;
- Will be exposed to noxious odors from cleaning products, to dust and wet conditions.
