Working in the Rail Safety Directorate at Transport Canada, Regional Railway Inspectors are responsible for monitoring railways to promote compliance with acts and regulations as well as working with railways in identifying and reducing risks.

What you will be doing:
☑ Conducting inspections and audits of railway facilities and operations within the region, and recommending compliance and/or enforcement actions as required;
☑ Providing technical advice and guidance to stakeholders in the railway industry;
☑ Applying expertise in investigations of accidents, incidents, injuries and fatalities, complaints and other situations as it relate to acts and regulations; and
☑ Participating in the planning and implementation of the regional inspection and monitoring program.
The reporting location for this position is at 4900 Yonge Street, Toronto. This position requires extensive travel locally, regionally, and sometimes nationally to conduct inspections and training. Duties will be performed in an office environment as well as various indoor and outdoor environments such as railway sites or yards.
This is an anticipatory process. A qualified pool may be established and used to staff this or other similar positions with various tenures or language profiles within Transport Canada.

Education:
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable* combination of education and experience.
*Acceptable combination is defined as completion of two (2) years of secondary school and at least five (5) years of experience working in the railway industry performing duties related to this position.
Experience:
Recent and significant* operational experience working as locomotive engineer OR transportation/operations supervisor, at a railway in Canada.
*Recent and significant experience is defined as having performed a broad range of various and complex activities normally acquired over a period of at least three (3) years; and the performance of these duties within the last five (5) years.
Asset Qualifications:
Successful completion of a post-secondary program from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Experience working as a locomotive engineer at a railway in Canada.
Experience working in an operations supervisory role at a railway in Canada.

To be placed in the inventory, you must meet the essential qualifications at the time you submit your application. If you do not meet the required qualification, you will receive a message "Application rejected at screening" after submitting your application. If you have incorrectly indicated "No" to a screening question, you can retrieve your application and update your response(s).

If you do not take any action, your application will be deactivated and it will no longer be considered.
