Within assigned provinces or regions, development, delivery and ongoing implementation of CORCAN’s employment training program, including supervising and training offenders while completing a variety of projects and tasks. This includes both specialized duties as well as general duties within CORCAN operations. Projects are delivered to a variety of clients including governmental, private sector, Indigenous communities and non-governmental organizations.
CORCAN Instructors directly provide the employment and employability program for offenders through on-the-job and vocational training offered by CORCAN. Ensures multi-dimensional objectives are met, relating to offender employment and training, reintegration programs, security, safety, production targets and customer satisfaction on behalf of CORCAN.

CORCAN, as part of the Correctional Service of Canada, is responsible for the Employment and Employability Program for offenders serving a federal sentence. CORCAN supports and operates a wide variety of interventions in federal institutions as well as for offenders under community supervision.
CORCAN Instructors, including those included in this process, are part of the CORCAN employment program providing on-the-job and/or vocational training, providing a unique opportunity to conduct duties related to the industry in a correctional environment (institution and community based), supervising and providing training to offenders who are assigned to the CORCAN employment program. This includes in various areas of CORCAN.

Possession of valid trade certification in an area related to the position (i.e. Painter, Painter Decorator (Commercial/Residential), Motor Vehicle Body Repairer or Automotive Painter) as recognized by the provincial trade authority or equivalent provincial governing body valid in the designated province of work.
OR
Possession of an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in the related domain provided the designated province of work does not require specific trade certification to perform duties required for the position.
* INSTRUCTOR, SHEET METAL/WELDER ONLY *
Possession of a valid trade certification in an area related to the position as recognized by the provincial trade authority or equivalent provincial governing body as valid in the designated province of work.
OR
Possession of an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in the related domain provided the designated province of work does not require specific trade certification to perform duties required for the position.

EXPERIENCE
Experience working with offenders in a correctional environment (community or institutional);
Experience working in an educational environment instructing individuals in the skills related to the position;
Experience in powder coating applications;
Experience in industrial electrostatic finishing systems;
Experience in auto body finishing, preparation, priming or painting;
Experience in the application of wet spray based paints and applicable processes;
Experience in the application of stain, lacquers and other relevant paint related applications;
Experience in sandblasting;
Experience in large vehicle or equipment divestment and/or restoration;
Experience in CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine utilization to complete and/or programming;
Experience in reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints and other related documents;
Experience in using precision measuring instruments to verify accuracy and conformance to specifications.
