Work environment

The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers, offering over 70 different types of civilian career opportunities. Intent of the process

The inventory will be used to establish a candidate pool for filling current and future vacancies, and may be used for similar positions with various tenures, language and security requirements.

A covering letter in 750 words (maximum)

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. Failing to do so could result in your application being rejected.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of secondary school education according to provincial/territorial standards.

Degree equivalency

Possession of a journeyperson Red Seal certificate in the area of mechanical trades.

Experience and/or training in all aspects of mechanical fitting as it applies to general repair of marine vessels

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience at a Marine Shipyard working on shipboard mechanical systems

Experience on Marine Naval ship mechanical systems

Experience on Canadian Frigate mechanical systems

Experience on Canadian Submarine mechanical systems

Experience on 1st Level Canadian Submarine mechanical systems

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Candidates must clearly demonstrate in the screening questions how they meet the education and experience factors listed as essential qualifications. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate in their covering letter how they meet any of the additional experience qualifications under the 'Other qualifications'.

Candidates may be required to meet the asset qualifications or the organizational needs, depending on the requirements of the specific position being staffed.
