Work environment

Inspectors must be leaders and skilled communicators capable of working effectively with others and adapting to the different needs of our clients. They must sometimes take rapid, decisive action and must be able to negotiate, facilitate behaviour change and develop new competencies in client industries. Inspectors work in an environment of high stress due to the possible impact of error and real or potential conflict. In the course of ensuring that regulations are respected, inspectors carry significant responsibility and accountability, their decisions have a direct impact on the safety of Canadians.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions on a permanent basis in Moncton, New Brunswick and in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
- A secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
- Possession of a valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence - Aeroplane Category with valid Group 1 Instrument Rating AND possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical);

OR

- Possession of a valid Airline Transport Pilot Licence - Helicopter Category with a valid Group IV Instrument Rating AND possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical).

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in analyzing complex situations and making recommendations.

- Total of 3,000 hours flight time, which includes 1,500 hours as pilot-in-command of which 500 hours is in either multi-engine aeroplanes OR Transport Category helicopters.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
- Possession of specific aircraft type rating or ratings that complement regulatory activity.

- Hold or have held a Class I Canadian Flight Instructor Rating.

- Hold or have held a Class II Canadian Flight Instructor Rating.

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in applying legislation or policies for the purpose of decision making.

- Experience exercising Ministerial Delegation of Authority under the Aeronautics Act and the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), for example Approved Check Pilot or Pilot Examiner.

- Experience in conducting assessments or evaluation of compliance.

- Experience in Quality Assurance.

- Experience in managing or supervising a team.

- Experience in writing documents, such as investigative reports or court documents.

- Experience in conducting interviews of suspects and witnesses.

- Experience as a helicopter flight crewmember on offshore operations.
