Duties

Under the direction of the Chief of Event Management and Protocol Services, the Senior Protocol Officers plans and manages protocol and logistical arrangements including the providing of hospitality services for all Supreme Court of Canada official events including delegations and dignitaries visiting the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) is Canada’s final court of appeal. The SCC is a bilingual institution that hears cases in French and English, in all areas of the law, such as family, criminal, and tax law. It decides cases from Canada’s two major legal traditions, common and civil law. Its decisions affect the lives of all Canadians. The SCC recognizes that a key element necessary in achieving and retaining a representative workforce is providing a supportive work environment and fostering a corporate culture that is welcoming to all employees, including designated group members. According to the most recent public service employee surveys, the SCC is one of the best places to work in the federal public service. Given that the SCC is not served by Pay Centre, it has its own compensation team responsible for administering the full range of pay and benefits transactions in Phoenix and MyGCHR.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to immediately staff one (1) Bilingual Imperative CCB/CCB position.

EDUCATION:
Post-secondary diploma, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in planning and co-ordinating programs and scenarios for events.
Experience organizing logistics for events.
Experience in providing financial services such as: preparing and monitoring budgets, monitoring expenditures and invoices.
Experience in providing advice to senior officials.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of the role and responsibilities of the Chief Justice of Canada and Justices of the Supreme Court of Canada.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires you to work on-site at the Supreme Court of Canada, 301 Wellington Street, in Ottawa.
Overtime: There is a requirement to sometime work overtime including evenings and some weekends, sometimes on short notice.
