Duties

Variety of work includes:
• The commissioning of Legal Survey Plans including Reference Plans, Surveyor’s Real Property Reports, Boundary Survey Plans and Mapping products for use in planning and GIS purposes.
• The Federal sites to be surveyed include Military Bases, Federal Harbours, Airports, Federal Penitentiaries, and Federal infrastructure facilities like Bridges, Causeways, Dam sites, Federally Administered Canals like the St. Lawrence Seaway, Trent, and Rideau systems.
• Geomatics services are also required in the preparation of Land Inventory Reports for Federally administered sites like Government of Canada Building sites, Airport sites, Federal Harbours, Heritage Lighthouse sites and environmentally sensitive sites which may require remediation due to contamination like the Hamilton Harbour and the former AECL site in Port Hope .

• The opportunity to perform historical research and liaise with other Federal, Provincial and Municipal Government Departments, Ministries and Agencies when preparing the variety of Surveys that we have been involved in is an opportunity to share information and gain knowledge that private sector Surveyors may not have the capability of doing.

Successful candidate will be expected to obtain membership as an Ontario Land Surveyor within the 1 year probationary period.

Intent of the process

The intent of this appointment process is to establish a fully assessed pool of qualified candidates. The results of this process may be used to staff same or similar positions for future vacancies of various tenures at Public Services and Procurement Canada.

The location of the position is in Toronto. A full-time teleworking agreement could be considered from any location in Canada where a PSPC or Coworking GC office is accessible.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice or other related field such as geomatics, geodetic sciences or remote sensing.

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:
A member in good standing, or be eligible for membership* as a Professional Ontario Land Surveyor in the Cadastral discipline.

*Eligible is defined as holding a commission as a Cadastral Land Surveyor in another province and obtaining membership as an Ontario Land Surveyor within the 1 year probationary period.

Experience
1. Significant* experience in legal surveying at a professional** level.
2. Experience in delivering Geomatics products and services.
3. Experience in Geomatics Project Management.
4. Experience in the supervision of Geomatics project management.

*Significant is defined as the depth of breadth of experience normally associated with performing legal surveying on a regular basis over approximately a 3 year period.
**Professional level is defined as work experience gained after having received a Land Survey accreditation.

Occupational Certification:
1. An active member of the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors (ACLS)
2. Member of a Geomatics organization such as: Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG), The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) or similar organization for more than 2 years.

Experience
1. Experience in participating in Geomatics Committees or as part of an executive body of a Geomatics organization or other organization.
2. Experience in Hydrography
3. Experience in Geographic Information Management
